Ok, I’ve coded the basic shell of my site. See what you think…shell of the site
Below is the basic design of the site:

My learning objectives
My e-Learning site is focused on the topic of science for elementary school children. My original idea was to have a site that my brother could use as an elementary school teacher to supplement what he is teaching in his classroom. Originally, I was just going to focus on one science topic: the Desert, which is something that kids learn about in school in Phoenix. However, I decided to broaden the range of topics a little bit to cover Biology, Astronomy, Ecology, Physics, and Archaeology. For each of these topics, there will be blogs, videos, games, and quizzes associated with each.

Very cool. I really like the rollover effect on the navigation. Great color scheme. This is going to be a fun site. I think that you are hitting-the-nail-on-the-head with you target audience.

I love the site design and the color scheme. For some reason the pictures for the different categories aren’t showing up when I look at the full-size version.
A few things I noticed are:
1) The login is practically lost in the header. I would increase the font size or provide a graphic background treatment to bring more attention to it.
2)Why do you have two sets of the same links? Since its a kids’ site I would go with the picture links vs the top navigation. But then I wonder where the content would go if the picture links are used instead??
The illustration of the brain next to feed your brain is interesting. Is it possible to increase the size of that illustration some more? It would be nice to see it in a little more detail.
The orange bar underneath the top navigation is nice. I like the textural treatment you did with it. Nice textures throughout the page. Overall it’s a nice start.
